Born in Louisiana and raised to Dallas, TX the great Rickey L. Carter cemented his legacy as an entertainer when he joined the cast of the hit show, Barney & Friends in the early 90’s as “Derek.” He got to showcase his natural musical ability and that landed him getting his first taste of live performance as a cast member of the stage show “Barney Live! At Radio City” in New York.
Ultimately, in 1995 he decided to put up his acting shoes so that he could enjoy his teen years, play sports, and live a more “normal” lifestyle. Rickey would go on to graduate high-school and attend a few years of college, all while helping to raise his young daughter.
Furthermore, the musical bug never left so in 2001 Rickey shifted to hip-hop and began working on a demo. He performed in clubs throughout Dallas as “Lil’ Rick” and then “Gifted” before a shooting in 2004 paralyzed him from the waist down. Against all odds, Rickey’s determination and drive allowed him to regain his ability to walk. Never deterred, “Gifted” hit the stage again, crutches and all; garnering him the name he goes by now: Gifted Tha Go-Gitta. He goes on to release a series of mixtapes before he takes a break to focus on family, this was not the end to his musical career.
Always a “Go-Gitta,” Rickey continued to build his brand by establishing “Go-Gitta Gear,” an apparel line, and creating and filming F.A.B.T. TV, an online tv show. However, music is still his first love, and he will be releasing 2 EPs in early 2021 and his long-awaited album at the end of the year. Always a “Go-Gitta,” Rickey will continue to focus on his passion and puts no limits on where his future will take him.
